‘RESONANT THREADS’ is the fourth release from New North, a concert series for exploratory music based in Narrm/Melbourne. It documents two captivating performance from New North's concert at Brunswick Mechanics Institute on March 10, 2022.

About the Music:

JASMIN WING-YIN LEUNG

Electronics and erhu

Jasmin Wing-Yin Leung is a composer/musician who works within concert and installation settings, investigating the possibilities inside intimate sonic and social spaces. She is interested in ideas of listening, resonance, tuning, environment, sharing and communication. She also plays the erhu and has developed an extended practice for this instrument. Jasmin performed a work for site-specific electronics and erhu at Resonant Threads, using the dimensions of the room to design patterns of resonance and interference.

MARIA MOLES

Drums, synths, cymbals and gongs

Maria Moles is a drummer/composer who has been highly active within the Melbourne music community since moving from Tasmania in 2011. Her solo percussion performances draw on ideas from the Kulintang music of the Philippines and contemporary electronic production to weave hypnotic webs from layers of unmetered pulse that slowly undergo subtle textural transformations.
